Dan and Rosie are both lecturers in the Theology Department at Uganda Christian University in Mukono, Uganda, training men and women for leadership in the church all over East Africa. Our two children are Abigail, aged 5 and Alex aged 4.

Before working with Global Teams Rosie spent two years in Zambia teaching under AEF and Dan spent two years in Kenya doing mainly church-planting work with AIM. In 1995-6 we attended All Nations Christian College, where we met, both in the midst of gaining a Masters in Missiology (Dan’s from CIU). We married two years later. We first worked in Harare, Zimbabwe, teaching at two different theological colleges, and our two children were born there. Sadly we had to leave Zimbabwe, and then spent a year teaching at Redcliffe College in Gloucester, UK, a missions training college. During that time we were invited to come and teach at UCU. We arrived here in 2003.

Uganda Christian University originated as Bishop Tucker Theological College, all the way back in 1913. Eight years ago it became a university. As well as continuing to train people for the ordained ministry in the church, the university seeks to raise up a generation of mature Christian leaders for Uganda in every field, from Education, to Law, Business, Social Work, IT and Mass Communications. All 4000 students have to take four courses covering Bible and Christian Ethics and Worldview. Both of us are involved in teaching these courses as well as teaching and discipling our Theology students.

In Theology, our students (men and women) come from Uganda as well as all the surrounding countries. Some are training for ordination, while others were ordained long ago but without any formal theological training, so come to the university when the money or opportunity arises. This means that some of our students are canons, and even bishops!

As well as teaching, we both lead discipleship groups for theology students, and Rosie leads a special group for women doing theology. We both preach from time to time in the university. Dan heads the Department of General Studies, and in addition is currently doing the huge job of creating the university schedule, which is another full time job for several weeks each term. He is also just embarking on a PhD, so his time is pressured and he definitely needs prayer!

Abigail and Alex go to a small international school in Kampala, where they are very happy and thriving. There is much for them to enjoy about living in Uganda, not least that they can play outside the whole time (even when it rains it is warm!)

Returning from a two month trip to the US made us aware that we do feel very much at home here in Uganda. Our work here is rewarding, and although life in Uganda has its frustrations, we know we are where God wants us to be.
