Board Members
Thom Shaw
Chairman
Thom Shaw is a attorney in private practice specializing in business and estate
planning law. Thom and his wife Sheryl are from Florida.
In addition to Global Teams, Thom's ministries include volunteer youth work at his
church, helping "widows and orphans" in his legal practice when possible, and
praying for people to change their minds outside abortion clinics.
The biggest impact that Global Teams has had on Thom was to not assume certain unreached groups cannot be reached (i.e., Islamic nations) and
not to assume that third world countries
cannot send missionaries too.
Kevin Higgins
Executive
Director
Over the years Kevin has served God in a number of different areas, including, but not
limited to, youth pastor, Episcopal priest, small business owner, church
planter, overseas missionary, and even hamburger flipper.
Involved with Global Teams as a missionary since 1990, Kevin developed a work in a
mainly Muslim country that has resulted in creative evangelism among eight language
groups and emerging people movements in four of those. Kevin now serves as Executive
Director responsible to the board for leading Global Teams, recruiting missionaries,
training, and raising funds for both his own ministry and for the organization.
Kevin serves Global Teams with his wife and ministry partner, Susan. They have
three daughters, Rachel, Sarah, and Emma. The Higgins family is based in Bakersfield,
California.
Scott Culp
Board Member
Scott grew up in a Christian home and accepted Jesus as his Savior in the
second grade. Being a military “brat,” he traveled all over the world during
his younger years. In high school, Scott’s spiritual life was greatly
influenced by Sandy Greene, his youth pastor and now his bishop. Under
Sandy’s leadership, he grew significantly in faith and knowledge.
Scott and his wife, Julie, have three daughters in their young adult
years: Amanda, Kacey,
and Stephanie. As of the writing of this bio, Kacey is preparing to go
to Africa on a 6-month mission trip to Uganda where she will serve in an
orphanage. Amanda is finishing her MBA at Rollins College in Winter Park,
FL, and Stephanie is in the home stretch of high school. His family has been
in the Orlando area since 1985.
Scott developed a heart for missions through the leadership of Carl
Buffington, the rector of his church. Over the years he has been on several
short-term mission trips to South America. His focus for missions is not
limited to any one place. His church is highly involved with missions
through the AMiA (Anglican Missions in America) under Archbishop Kolini in
Africa.
Professionally, Scott is a partner in real estate development. He has
what he considers the ideal job, one he can “be proud of, make money, and
provide a service to those in need.” His organization develops affordable
apartment complexes (now called “Work Force Housing”). His degree is in
construction management through Auburn University.
Scott’s interest in Global Teams was sparked a few years ago when Kevin
Higgins spoke at his church. In 2006, he was invited to become a board
member of GT due to a combination of his heart for missions and his business
experience. He has a strong desire to see the Kingdom Ventures program
become successful. He finds the Kingdom Venture concept both exciting and
challenging. He feels he can help provide some leadership along with those
who have the time to devote to developing the structure.
Alfred Keith
Board Member
For the first part of his career, Alfred worked for an international
engineering and construction firm both domestically and overseas in the
Marshall Islands and South Africa. Later, In the early 90’s, Alfred was
called by the Lord, in a very powerful and tangible way, to leave his
current position and move to the Sultanate of Oman to work in the mission
field in a “tent-making” capacity. Living in the city of Muscat, he managed
a private partnership for the Oil Minister of Oman.
Upon returning to the USA after a few years, Alfred began to get involved
in the technology business. Today, Alfred is the owner of a technology-based
consulting firm which specializes in providing operations management
consulting and business systems software for large corporations.
Alfred is passionate for missions and he feels that this is an absolute
and essential part of our Christian calling and belonging. Alfred believes
that Christians and churches should make missions the foundation of their
lives for two primary reasons. One is that Scriptures is very clear that we
are called to fulfill the Great Commission. Second is that it allows
Christians to participate in God’s kingdom right here on earth, right now,
without having to wait for heaven. “God gives us the opportunity to
participate and receive a glimpse of what it might be like to be in
fellowship with tongues and peoples of all nations. We have the abundance to
live out Revelations 7:9 today!”
As a board member, he believes that he is to serve God as a steward of
the resources Global-Teams is provided and to provide sound judgment in
decisions affecting the organization. Alfred is excited about Global-Teams
because its mission and principles closely follow Scripture and the “Jesus
Movement” in Acts of the early church. Alfred is interested in Global-Teams
for several reasons. He is excited that Global-Teams use the Acts model of
“insider” movements and that its vision is “to see the heart of Christ in
the skin of every culture”. The portion of Matthew 28:19……”go and make
disciples of all nations” and Global-Teams signature style of “From the
Nations, To the Nations!” appeals to Alfred’s adventuresome nature.
Alfred’s educational background includes Bachelors Degree in Chemical
Engineering from Vanderbilt University, Masters Degree in Mechanical
Engineering and MBA. Alfred and his wife, Jane, have been married for
9-years and are expecting their first child. They currently live in
Birmingham, AL. and are members of the Anglican Mission in America.

calling. She has served our Lord through various non-profit organizations
such as the American Red Cross and Regional Food Banks, as a CEO. With a
heart for helping organizations grow to meet current demands, Ann provides a
focus on planning, fund raising, and board development.
God called Ann to a life of service at a young age. "Giving is in my
heart; learning how to give internationally has been a gift. Working with
people all over the world has humbled my 'western' views and brought clear
reminders of just how much God really does do in everyone's lives."
Ann has two teenage sons and lives in Moorpark, CA
The Rev. Tim Vellom
Board Member
Tim was ordained an Episcopal priest in January, 1986, and has served
parishes in four different South Texas communities. Since 1999, he has
served as Rector of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, a small but lively
congregation in a suburb of San Antonio. His passion is for pastoring
believers to greater wholeness in Christ while equipping them for service in
his Name. Tim is deeply involved in the ministry of healing that the Lord
has raised up at St. Matthew’s and several other congregations in the San
Antonio area, and is especially focusing his learning in the area of inner
healing.
Tim has been married to Ann for 25 years, and their involvement with
Global Teams has been energized and channeled largely through their
friendship with Kevin and Susan Higgins dating back to seminary days in the
early 1980’s. Tim’s interest in seeing the Gospel in the lives
of people across the
world has been stirred by his elder daughter’s call to serve the deeply
wounded children of Central Africa, and by a developing partnership between
the healing ministry at St. Matthew’s and the Member Care work of Global
Teams.
